COURSE DESCRIPTION: This class is for artists who have experience drawing the figure and are interested in portraiture, narrative, and in the draped figure. Do “clothes make the man”? We don’t know, but they definitely offer a great opportunity for storytelling in pictures. Whether it’s a quiet Degas moment where a dancer adjusts her strap or a dramatic challenge by an African warrior, costumes and props create compelling scenes. Also, learn about the seven types of folds and how drapery conceals or reveals the figure beneath.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Aimee Erickson is a respected Portland artist who comes to Hipbone with years of teaching experience and a gift for helping students move to the next level. She has a BFA in illustration and has also studied at the Art Students League of New York, the Florence Academy of Art, PCC, Hipbone, and with Burt Silverman. She carries a sketchbook.
