Glenn William Wright was born in 1958 in Columbus, Ohio where he lived for the first 27 years of his life. Between the ages of 18 and 27 he attended The Columbus College of Art and Design (CCAD) where he graduated with a BFA in Advertising. It was at CCAD that he discovered his affinity for figure drawing – filling up his elective courses with drawing classes.
Fulfilling a yearning to live closer to nature, he moved to Portland, Oregon in 1985. There he soon located various drop-in figure drawing sessions where he has been studying and drawing ever since.
In his own words:
“In studying anatomy, the figure, I wasn’t long in finding pasture therein. What started out as pragmatic exercise to learn to draw eventually became a satisfying, engaging art-form – a valid end in itself. The more I draw the figure, the more complex and engaging it becomes — ever just beyond firm grasp, ever seducing deeper reach.
To me the figure is music made flesh: a symphony, a system of patterns, rhythms spun and woven by eternity -Â an infinite, enigmatic truth, the fabric of The Universe itself.”
